The Heart of 12C: A Year of Learning, Sharing and Laughing Together

They say being a PGT Commerce teacher is all about balance sheets, market trends, and the nuances of Entrepreneurship. But as the Grade Tutor for 12C, I’ve learned that the most important "assets" aren't found in a textbook-they are the 25 unique individuals who walk into my classroom every morning. Being a Grade Tutor is a role that goes far beyond checking attendance or managing grades. It’s about building a micro-community. Over the past year, my journey with these twenty-five students has been defined by four simple yet powerful pillars: Learn, Share, Teach, and Laugh.
1. To Learn (From Them)
While I am technically the "expert" in the room, my students have been some of my greatest teachers. From 12C, I’ve learned about the latest digital trends, the resilience it takes to navigate board exam pressure, and the infectious optimism of youth. They remind me daily that learning isn’t just about mastering a syllabus; it’s about staying curious.
2. To Share (The Journey)
Grade 12 is a rollercoaster. There are days of high-stakes anxiety and days of breakthrough moments. By sharing my own experiences, both my professional successes and my personal "oops" moments, I’ve tried to show them that perfection isn’t the goal. Growth is! We share our wins, our worries about the future, and even the occasional box of sweets after a successful project.
3. To Teach (Beyond the Books)
Yes, we talk about business studies and entrepreneurship, but real teaching happens in the "in-between" moments. Teaching 12C has been an opportunity to mentor them in life skills: time management, empathy, and how to stay grounded when things get chaotic. My goal is for them to leave 12C not just as commerce students, but as kind, capable citizens.
4. To Laugh (The Best Medicine)
If you walk past the door of 12C, you will hear a burst of laughter. Whether it is a joke about a particularly tricky case study or a lighthearted moment during a break, laughter is the glue that holds us together. It breaks the ice, relieves the stress of the boards, and makes the classroom feel like a second home.
To my twenty-five students in 12C, thank you for making this year so much more than just a job. You are a vibrant, diverse, and brilliant group. As we march forward in the session, I am reminded that the best part of being a teacher is not just seeing you graduate, it is to be a part of your story.
