A TRUE STORY
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a festival celebrated by Sikhs to mark the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev. It is one of the holiest festivals for the Sikh community.
One early morning I woke up with a lot of enthusiasm to take part in the Guru Nanak Jayanti. Just the day before, my aunt and I planned to go at 8:00 am. I frantically got ready to take part in the same.
I ran to catch the elevator and found my aunt waiting on the ground floor. We both quickly went together for the ceremony. First, we got some halwa, which was very tasty, and then we walked to the bhog. There were chhole, butter kulcha, plain kulcha and some kheer. Yum Yum!! Writing this still makes my mouth watery.
It was one of the fresh and sacred meals of the year!
Seeing many kids serving food and water I also said to myself, “I want to serve something as well!” but didn’t know how to start. My Aunt came to my rescue and guided me to start serving water.
I was serving water using a thin disposable serving plate. I asked the first person that I saw, “Would you like some fresh water?” Right after that, the entire plate toppled over and all the water spilled on that man. How awful! I apologized repeatedly and earned his forgiveness.
In total, I served 150-160 glasses of water, hoof! That was very tiring, and I was barefoot the whole time while serving! We went back home, and I slept for 2 hours. Realizing what a fulfilling day it was, with utmost gratefulness, I felt satisfied. My heart felt full and joyful.
